Cantrell Residence

The Cantrell Residence is a lakeside home that negotiates a steep site with separately roofed volumes stepping down the hill in a linear plan. The owners have lifelong connections to the lake community, and the home is designed with a full appreciation of lakeside living. The site allows the building to organize its long axis east to west, and it achieves excellent passive solar performance with the help of louvered sunshades protecting the large expanses of south-facing glass. From the water, the white stucco chimney registers the building to the lake like the prow of a ship.
